European

European removals Portugal France Italy

As part of the Britannia group of companies, with a fleet of removal trucks constantly making deliveries and pick-ups throughout Europe on a weekly basis, we're able to offer our clients an efficient and cost effective moving solution. A full packing service is available if required to ensure all of your belongings are well protected in transit.

SMALL MOVES

Only have a few items to move? A common misconception is that removal companies aren't interested in undertaking small moves and that a "man and van" service may seem like a better solution but this isn't the case at all. A large proportion of our business involves the transport and distribution of smaller consignments across Spain, to the UK (England, Scotland, Wales and N.Ireland) and the rest of Europe and for this purpose we can offer our prospective clients two door to door options:

PALLET SERVICE

European Pallet transport Spain UK Italy France

We collect the goods locally, provide a strong pallet, stow the goods safely, shrink wrap the pallet and label it accordingly. A tracking code is provided to follow the pallet's progress online. We also have a reliable service to the Canary islands (Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura) and to the Balearics (Mallorca, Menorca and Ibiza).

COURIER SERVICE

Courier service Spain to UK and rest of Europe

We offer our clients a no hassle, reliable and competitive courier service to most EU destinations which is ideally suited for one or two standard cartons. Size and weight restrictions are applicable for these types of deliveries. Our staff can also pack the goods if required. Transit time is 5 to 7 working days and prices start from 60 Euros + IVA.

PACKING OPTIONS

On local and national moves furniture is generally blanket wrapped in the vans unless special arrangements have been agreed to in writing. Blankets provide enough protection on these moves, where the goods stay on the same vehicle with the same staff from start to end. When it comes to international removals a more elaborate packing service is required because of increased handling and other factors. Britannia Southern offers the following options to protect your goods on these moves:

Export packing service for international removals

FULL EXPORT PACK

This includes us wrapping furniture in laminated bubble wrap and protecting fragile pieces with cardboard when required. All removal cartons will be packed by our crew so you can sit back and let us do all the work.

PART PACK

The client will pack the smaller items into removal cartons and leave our crew to export wrap all of the furniture in laminated bubble wrap. This option considerably reduces the packing time and this is reflected in the quotation.

PACKED BY OWNER

By far the cheapest option available. The client will pack the entire consignment using our materials or purchasing them elsewhere which means our staff will simply collect the goods and deliver them to the destination address.

THE SPAIN TO UK MOVING SPECIALISTS

We've been in the business of door to door house removals to and from the UK since the early 1980's. Goods can be professionally packed and collected from anywhere in Southern Spain and placed into Britannia's secure storage depot in Mijas until the next scheduled truck to the UK (approx. every 2 to 3 weeks). We cater for part loads and full loads and can handle the new customs formalities both in the UK and Spain due to Brexit.  If you're moving from the UK to Spain you can rely on the extensive Britannia Movers network with 40 offices throughout the UK to ensure a stress free move.

PRE-MOVE SURVEY

Survey for removals - Britannia Southern

The most important part of any move is the planning. At Britannia Southern we believe that if a removal company isn't willing to send a surveyor to the client's address (within a reasonable distance) to undertake a survey they don't deserve to get the job. In order to prepare a quotation we need to assess the overall volume of the goods, packing requirements, items to dismantle, access and parking for our vehicles, items that require special attention, manpower required for the move, etc. The information gathered from the survey will allow us to submit a bespoke quotation for your move. When the client has  submitted a detailed house contents list then a survey isn't always necessary but is definitely advisable.

INSURANCE COVER

Insurance for removals and storage in Spain

Whether you're moving across the road or across the globe, we offer a variety of insurance packages to suit your removal and storage requirements. Clients' consignments are automatically insured up to a maximum value of 18.000 Euros (this is what's known as in transit insurance) when the load is transported in Britannia Southern's vehicles only. This policy covers damages to goods (when in the vehicle) caused by fire, lightning, explosion, flooding, road accident, armed robbery and earthquake. For international removals we offer All risk and Total Loss coverage. Don't be mislead when companies advertise they're fully insured - the level of liability should be set out clearly in their terms and conditions.

WHY DO ESTIMATES VARY SO MUCH?

Brexit has completely changed the UK removal industry and customs clearance is here to stay. Please check if your mover includes customs clearance in the quotation. When moving from Spain to the UK you'll have to claim for Transfer of Residence relief (ToR1) from HM Revenue & Customs in order to avoid paying import duties in the UK. Our staff can guide you through this process explaining what the required documents are and who is entitled to this relief. For UK to Spain removals the requirements for a duty free import by Spanish customs are far more complex and many clients prefer to settle import duties rather than be frustrated by the red tape.
If you've only asked for a rough price over the telephone and not obtained anything in writing, you could be exposed to "unexpected" charges on delivery. If a price seems too good to be true, it probably is. You should never agree to a verbal contract.
Quality packing materials along with the time required to carefully wrap and pack full households significantly contribute to the overall cost of a move and shouldn't be ignored. You need to ask the removal company how your furniture is going to be wrapped, with blankets? with thin bubble wrap? with laminated bubble wrap? Are the boxes included? Are they new boxes? Are they suitable for removals?
If a company offers you free insurance it will certainly only be transit insurance. This won't cover you for breakages, damages or missing items during loading and unloading. Britannia Southern can provide an "All Risk" cover subject to the client completing a proposal form. Insurance is calculated as a percentage of the declared value of the goods and is never "free".
A frequent way to attract client interest is to advertise the cheapest service on offer (depot to depot). Generally speaking this is a rate per cubic metre and doesn't include packing, boxes, insurance or VAT. There's also a minimum charge that isn't usually mentioned either. The client is expected to take the goods into the mover's depot and collect them at the other end too. You're simply paying for a transport service not a removal.
If you haven't received a binding quotation including a list of the goods to move for a fixed price, you could end up paying more than you were anticipating. Customers shouldn't rely on submitting online estimate forms for accurate quotations as these provide the moving company with limited information. It's very difficult to calculate the total volume of a consignment purely from a client submitted list, especially when the measurements are missing. Pre-move surveys are much more reliable as the surveyor can visually check the house contents, see what can be dismantled to save space, the packing requirements, items that require special attention and then calculate the overall volume of the goods.
On international removals most companies will base their quotations on the volume of the goods, either in cubic metres or cubic feet and there will always be a minimum charge to make the transport viable. Man and Van outfits have recently started to charge clients a combination of volume and weight. This is because the 3.5tn vans they use are inadequate for long trips due to payload restrictions. To compensate for this they penalise clients by charging them extra for loads that exceed "their" average weight. This practice is very abusive and can lead to unexpected charges.
