| | Local and nationwide removals Furniture is generally blanket wrapped on the truck and the boxes can either be owner packed or packed by us depending on the quotation. Blankets provide enough protection on these moves, where the goods stay on the same vehicle from start to end. Our vehicles are fully equipped with a sizeable amount of woollen blankets to protect your household contents. We also have quilted sofa covers at your disposal and hanging garment carriers that prevent clothes from creasing.
UK and European removals by road Unless a van blanket wrap has been chosen by the client -not recommended but always an option- then furniture is export wrapped using two types of bubble wrap: Laminated bubble wrap: We use this type of bubble wrap for the most delicate of items such as antiques, canvas paintings, mirrors, dining table tops, TV's, pianos, lacquered and varnished items of furniture and any other piece of furniture that requires that extra protection. The laminated layer helps prevent the bubble wrap from sticking to the surface and accidentally removing the paint or varnish. It's especially indicated for canvas paintings where normal bubble wrap has been known to stick to the painting and cause irreparable damage. Double coated bubble wrap: This bubble wrap is much stronger than the average type because of the fact that the bubbles are between two layers, not on one single layer. You can feel the extra thickness inmediately. We use this type of bubble wrap for rugs, soft furnishings, glass fronted pictures, large vases, shelving, headboards, chairs, etc.
As well as bubble wrapping furniture we also provide protective covers for mattresses to keep them clean at all times. Glass and marble tops that require special care are bubble wrapped and then further protected with thick foam edges. Large pictures are packed into especially designed cartons to reduce the risk of damage and lampshades are placed into cartons to prevent accidental crushing. Pallet transport The emphasis here is safely securing the load onto the pallet, also known as a skid. We generally use standard size wooden pallets for European destinations and plastic pallets for LCL shipments due to fumigation restrictions in some countries. A standard size pallet(120 x 100 cms) offers greater stability and stackability than smaller sized pallets and is better suited to our removal cartons. Once the items have been packed they are placed onto the pallet where they'll be shrink wrapped, cardboarded and banded becoming a solid and stable load.
Overseas shipping (FCL and Groupage) The packing standard is the same as for UK and European moves with the particularity that everything has to be wrapped, even garden tools, terrace furniture, bicycles, plant pots, exercise equipment and barbeques. Items that are particularly delicate as well as being bubble wrapped are also cardboarded for extra protection. Air freight This method of transportation requires the same standard of packing as with the groupage shipments. There's no need to palletise or crate the goods but we do insist that they're fully wrapped, even holdalls and suitcases, to ensure they are tamper-proof and cannot be lost/mislaid because the label has fallen off. We recommend using our strong removal cartons rather than weak and mismatched boxes because the cargo will be manhandled at various times during transport, especially on long distance destinations. Fine art and other high value goods Britannia Southern can provide made-to-measure crates for high value items. We also stock a wide variety of crates that have only been used once. Please be advised that fumigation certificates are required for certain overseas destinations.
Courier service As with air freight the packing has to be of a high standard. We only recommend sending cartons or wrapped baggage, not furniture or very delicate items. |
